Steam Era Freight Cars Blog | 15 Comments - Click Here :

Narrow or standard gauge, I'm always interested in early freight car construction. Marty McGuirk is reviving (updating) the Steam Era Freight Cars blog. Though standard gauge oriented, the construction techniques were/are the same.
Like this blog, he offers prototype modelers the opportunity to contribute with blog posts of their own. You can follow along here:

  1. Mmmm... yes. I have coveted this car for many years. Tell me you are just borrowing it.

  2. Off and on. That car has more miles on it than the prototype had. Lol!

    1. Agreed! I saw it over on Trout Creek Pass several years ago. Ran over that district for a couple of years at least! Doug won an award with it, I believe. He is an awsome modeler!

    2. D, maybe 7642 should make a trip to Leadville?

    3. I made sure to snap lots of pictures of 7642 the last time I caught it passing through Dickey. Last I heard it was sitting with the #22 somewhere out east of Denver collecting sediment. Very sad as it could be generating revenue for the railroad.

    4. First you raise a lot of capital! Then you go to Korea and talk to the solder jockies who use toothpaste for solder. Then you draw plans and make several more trips to Korea. Then you pay some duty taxes, have a lot of headaches and spend even more money advertising your little gems (a.k.a. brass thunderclouds because they rain brass parts when you touch 'em....) Then you hope you sell enough of 'em so that you can keep your house!

      Still interested?

    5. Well d, I don't know if my undies are ready for that adventure. With the new Archer rivets, the tank seems less a problem. What confounds me on CONX 8 is the steel frame and all those holes from when the standard gauge car was disassembled. Too bad there is not a way (yet) to get this 3D printed.

    1. Once Doug settles on what it is he is going to model, maybe he will return with a blog. For now, I know he is very busy with everything else in life.

  5. I thought he was planning on Central City/BlackHawk?
